Human rights activist and Rivers State elder statesman Jake Epelle has called on Fred Apiafi, the newly appointed sole administrator of Opobo-Nkoro local government, to reject his appointment by the Rivers State Dole Administrator, Ibok Ete Ibas in a show of solidarity with suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

In an interview with Arise TV, he advised: “If I’m my brother Apiafi, who has been appointed as Sole Administrator in Opobo, I would reject that appointment. These are political jobbers. These are people who are looking for a job to do; these are people that go and check their pedigree. They have no love and patriotism for the state they call their own. They just want to be there and take what they feel belongs to them, whatever they can cut away from the cake.”

He questioned the motivations of political figures involved in the ongoing Rivers State crisis: “I mean, think about this: the 27 lawmakers, are they not Rivers people, and is Wike not a Rivers person? The fact that you’re a Rivers person does not actually make you blind to what is morally right. So, it’s not a question of saying they are Rivers people, and because they are Rivers people, they will reject an appointment that is given to them; they see it as their own turn to cut the cake.”

Jake Elle further noted that the Rivers State people will be victorious at the end of the day. He accused the allies of the FCT Minister of sabotaging the democratic structures in the state.
