A Former PDP National Chairman and a current BOT Member of the PDP, Chief Bode George has attributed the current problems in the PDP to Iyorcha Ayu’s failure to resign as National Chairman after Alhaji Atiku Abubakar emerged as the party presidential candidate. He cited the South West’s exclusion from top positions in the party as a significant issue, making it challenging for him to campaign for any presidential candidate
He emphasized the need to address the underlying problems that arose before the election, which have yet to be resolved. He criticized the party’s leadership for disregarding established procedures and the constitution, particularly in the selection of Atiku as the presidential candidate. He argued that the party should adhere to its established procedures and rotate positions between the North and South to maintain balance and fairness.
He said in an interview with Arise TV From 25:42, ”If Ayu had left immediately Atiku emerged, there wouldn’t have been any problem. Take my Southwest as an example, none of the top positions in the party are given to the South West. So how do you expect me to campaign for any Presidential candidate when all the procedure of handling these matters were disrupted. And that is why I’m saying that we should not cover up the mess that we started pre-election. Bola is in his second year and we are yet to resolve these issues.
The first meeting in the party was sometimes this year. So let us examine the depths and the real issues so that it doesn’t happen again. We have the procedure of how things should work in the party but they reneged on it. Atiku emerged as against the constitution and they are still covering up like nothing happened. Let us address the issues that never again should we make this mistake in the history of our party. Eight years all positions should be in the North and another eight years all positions in the South. It is a fixated culture of the party.”
