During his screening for the position of Minister of Defence, former Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa offered a firm explanation of how military personnel are expected to act when deployed. He stressed that every soldier is fully briefed before being sent out, and they already know their responsibilities, their mission, and the rules that guide their actions.
In a video shared by TV Platinum from 0:47, Musa explained that soldiers do not go into any operation confused or unsure about what they are supposed to do. Before deployment, they are clearly told the situations in which they must take action, especially when facing armed criminals or bandits. According to him, a soldier does not need to wait for extra instructions if an armed person poses a direct danger to them, their colleagues, or the people they are protecting. In such moments, responding quickly is part of their duty.
He argued that a soldier who claims to be waiting for orders in a life-threatening situation is simply avoiding responsibility. Musa described this as an act of fear rather than professionalism. Once deployed, he said, the instructions are already given, and the expectation is that personnel will act to stop any threat before it harms anyone or destroys property.
