Nana Kazure, during an interview with Arise Television from 6.23, expressed strong criticism towards Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s comments about Labour Party’s Peter Obi. Akpabio had said that Obi should fix issues in his party before talking about insecurity in Nigeria. But Kazure found this unfair.
She reminded viewers that Akpabio once made light of serious protests by saying leaders would “stay and enjoy themselves.” To her, this attitude is like when Marie Antoinette famously said, “let them eat cake,” while people were suffering. She added, “And we know how that ended,” referring to the French Revolution.
Kazure also said Nigeria’s democracy is surviving not because of its leaders, but because Nigerians are patient and peaceful people. She argued that many politicians only switch parties to be closer to power, not to help the country. At 26 years into democracy, she said Nigeria should not still be struggling with basic leadership.
She supported Senator Abaribe’s view that leaders already know the security problems in their areas, so holding more meetings won’t fix anything. Instead, they need to act fast and honestly.
Kazure questioned Akpabio’s sense of urgency. “And I want to believe that this same Senator Akpabio, who is giving advice, I want to believe that he’s the head of his home. If his family was threatened or their security was being breached, would it take him 48 hours to respond?” she asked.
