According to a report by The Times of Israel, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced plans to demolish the homes of two Palestinians involved in a deadly shooting attack in the West Bank that killed a pregnant Israeli woman earlier this year.

The operation targets the residences of Naael and Maher Samarah. Naael Samarah, a member of Hamas, was shot and killed by the IDF in the immediate aftermath of the attack, while Maher Samarah was among three accomplices later arrested and charged.

The attack occurred on May 14, near the Palestinian village of Bruqin and the Israeli settlement of Bruchin. A Palestinian gunman opened fire on Israeli motorists, killing 30-year-old Tzeela Gez, who was en route to a hospital to give birth, and injuring her husband. The infant, delivered by emergency cesarean section at Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva, tragically died 15 days later.

The planned demolitions are consistent with Israel’s longstanding policy of targeting the homes of individuals accused of carrying out lethal attacks. Israeli authorities maintain that these measures serve as a deterrent against future attacks, aiming to prevent escalation of violence in the region.

The IDF did not specify a timeline for the demolitions but emphasized that the operation is part of broader security measures in the West Bank aimed at neutralizing potential threats. Military sources noted that the measures are conducted following thorough investigations to confirm the involvement of the suspects in attacks against Israeli civilians.

The May 14 attack remains a focal point in discussions over security in the West Bank. Israeli authorities have faced ongoing challenges in balancing civilian safety with efforts to manage tensions in Palestinian communities. The incident, which resulted in the death of a pregnant woman and her infant, drew widespread attention and condemnation from Israeli officials, highlighting the human toll of ongoing regional violence.
