The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) says it has finally heard from a reliable witness who was sitting right next to Comfort Emmanson, the woman in the viral videos showing a clash with an Ibom Air crew member.

According to a report by Punch on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, Michael Achimugu, who is the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, announced this on Wednesday in a post on X.com. He said the witness reached out to him, shared his boarding pass for proof, and gave a first-hand account of what really happened before the August 10 Uyo–Lagos flight took off.

“The passenger seated right next to the lady in the viral videos has contacted me (also sent in his boarding pass) and given his account of the events that transpired on the aircraft before departure,” he wrote.

Achimugu explained that the testimony brought fresh details to light, including the behaviour of other passengers and how the situation was handled before departure. This could help give a fairer picture of the incident, which has caused nationwide debate and a storm of reactions on social media.

The NCAA has now sent a Letter of Investigation to Ibom Air and will invite the airline, the new witness, and other passengers to a meeting to hear all sides of the story.

Achimugu said he was glad a credible witness had stepped forward, especially since he had ignored the “fake audios and claims” spreading online. He promised that anyone found guilty of wrongdoing would be held responsible.

He also stressed that the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, and the NCAA remain committed to protecting the rights of all air travellers. He said the investigation will help identify and fix problems, and that mediation is still an acceptable way to resolve such conflicts.
