According to the report from SYMFONI TV, Comrade Imeabe Saviour Oscar, the National President of the South South Youths Initiative, raised concerns over the ongoing developments in Nigeria’s Niger Delta region, specifically the targeting of Ogoni oil. He criticized the government’s approach to addressing security and governance issues in the region, particularly under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Oscar pointed out the dangers of the ongoing state of emergency declaration and the potential consequences for the people of the Niger Delta. He expressed his disapproval of the government’s focus on Ogoni oil, warning that it could lead to further exploitation and suffering for the local communities.

In a scathing address, he stated, “If you are comfortable to accept this particular appointment, we want to tell you that you don’t mean well for the people of Niger Delta, and you don’t mean well for the South-South region.” Oscar was referring to the recent appointment of a so-called administrator for Rivers State by President Tinubu, which he described as a misguided decision that does not serve the interests of the people.

Oscar’s statement was direct and firm, calling for a change in leadership. “We want to call on you, the so-called administrator of River State, Ibok-Ete Ibas appointed by Mr. President, that we want to sincerely, as your son, as your children, as the youth of the region, call upon you to please resign your position as the sole-administrator in River State,” he said.

The activist also slammed the judiciary for its role in the ongoing turmoil in the region, accusing it of complicity in the government’s handling of the crisis. He warned that the situation could escalate if the government does not engage more effectively with the local communities and address their legitimate concerns.

Oscar’s remarks underline the growing frustration in the Niger Delta region and highlight the need for careful consideration of the region’s interests in any political or economic decisions made at the federal level. As tensions rise, the call for a change in approach to governance and leadership in the South-South region is becoming more urgent.
