Governor Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State expressed his dissatisfaction with the Federal Government during a recent visit to the neglected portions of the East-West Road. Choosing to drive rather than fly to Port Harcourt, Diri aimed to experience firsthand the challenges faced by his constituents. His decision to travel by road underscored his commitment to understanding the plight of the people affected by the deteriorating infrastructure.

In the interview from 3:13, “I would have flown by air to Port Harcourt, but I wanted to feel what my people are feeling,” Diri stated emphatically. His journey highlighted the severe condition of the road and the subsequent hardship endured by those who travel it daily. The Governor’s hands-on approach aimed to bring attention to the urgent need for infrastructural repairs and development.

During his visit, Diri recounted his recent conversation with the Honourable Minister of Works. “I put a call across to the Honourable Minister of Works just two days ago. I got these reports from very high personnel who visited me from Port Harcourt and told me they spent four hours on this road. So, I put a call across to the Honourable Minister. The Honourable Minister put a conference call to the contractor, and the contractor claimed that it was because of the impatience of the drivers that the road is blocked.”

Governor Diri further revealed the contractor’s alleged falsehoods, stating, “Now, I am here to confirm that the contractor was lying, that there was nothing like impatience on the part of the drivers. There was no plan, while they were reconstructing this road, that one part of the road be prepared for vehicles to pass while they work on the other part. There was no plan. The contractor had no plan, and that is why our people are suffering.”
