Former Governor Ayodele Fayose said he does not support the emergency rule declared in Rivers State or the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara by President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking in a video shared by Channels TV from 54:43, Fayose said he was once a victim of emergency rule when former President Olusegun Obasanjo got him removed as governor of Ekiti. He described the action as unfair and unjust.

Fayose also stated that the Nigerian Constitution does not give the president the power to remove a sitting elected governor. He said he completely disagrees with the action taken by President Tinubu in the case of Rivers State

In Fayose’s words: “I did not support an emergency rule because I was a victim of an emergency rule. Obasanjo did that unfairly and unjustly to me and the powers in the constitution did not give the president the powers to remove a sitting elected governor of a state. That I defer totally from the position taken by Mr President”
