In an interview on Arise TV, Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake recounted his firsthand experience of a critical moment in Nigeria’s democratic struggle, stating that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was strategically chosen to accompany the late Chief MKO Abiola to a meeting with late General Sani Abacha.
“How Tinubu came to accompany MKO was something that had been crafted a night before, and I was there. I’m a living witness,” Alake said during the interview. “Where was Sule Lamido when Tinubu was doing all of this?”
Alake’s remarks were in response to recent criticisms by former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, who questioned Tinubu’s role in the June 12 struggle. Alake, a close ally of both Tinubu and MKO, dismissed Lamido’s comments as uninformed, emphasizing that Tinubu was deeply involved in the resistance efforts and not a latecomer to the pro-democracy movement.
