Mike Okiro, a former Inspector General of Police and one-time chairman of the Police Service Commission, has shared what he believes was the biggest mistake of late President Muhammadu Buhari in office.
In an interview with Channels TV from 16:41, Okiro stated that Buhari allowed a group of powerful people around him, often referred to as a cabal, to take control of his government. He said this made it very hard for others to reach Buhari directly, even when the issues were important.
Okiro said that during his time as chairman of the Police Service Commission, he had something serious to discuss with Buhari but he could not get access to Buhari because some people around Buhari were blocking him.
Okiro said that at one point, he had to be quietly led through a backdoor to see the Buhari in Aso Rock. He said he told Buhari that he used the backdoor because some of his aides were blocking his access to him
In Okiro’s words: “I remember there was a situation where I was smuggled through the backdoor to see Buhari as chairman of PSC. I wanted to discuss with him but people were blocking me from seeing him. I had to go through backdoor to see him and I explained to him that, ‘They are blocking me from seeing you that is why I came through the backdoor to see you’ and he was happy with me”
