The Chief Executive Officer of the Gulf of Guinea Risk and Resilience Institute, Joachim Ezeji has taken a swipe at former Abia State Governor and Senate Chief Whip, Orji Uzor Kalu, over comments perceived to downplay the political influence of former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi.

Speaking during an interview on Signature TV from 8:47, Ezeji questioned Kalu’s perception of his political relevance compared to the widespread popularity of Peter Obi, who has continued to command strong grassroots support across Nigeria.

“I was listening to Orji Uzor Kalu. He thinks he is senior to Peter Obi’s followership. Let him come and test his popularity,” Ezeji said, challenging the lawmaker to measure his public support through the same democratic platforms that have amplified Obi’s influence.

Ezeji noted that the political landscape in Nigeria has shifted significantly, with a new generation of voters aligning more with competence, accountability, and integrity—values he said are associated with Obi’s movement. He argued that traditional political structures built on patronage and regional dominance are losing relevance in modern Nigerian politics.

According to him, “The people now decide who they support, not by money or ethnicity but by who they trust. That’s the reality many old politicians are struggling to accept.”
