Public analyst Oladeinde Ariyo has recounted a harrowing experience involving a surprise insurgent attack in Gusau, a remote community in northern Nigeria.
Speaking during a live interview on TVC News, Ariyo shared chilling details of how he and others narrowly escaped an ambush while en route to a friend’s wedding.
“I was in Gusau, it was high risk for me,” Ariyo began, expressing concern over the security situation in the area. While he withheld specific details of their mission due to security concerns, he confirmed the group had traveled from Lagos for a wedding celebration. What was meant to be a joyful occasion quickly turned into a nightmare.
“Less than a kilometer to the place where we were, these guys were on the road with 200 or thereabout motorcycles,” Ariyo revealed. “And on each bike, they had three people. You know what that means, 600 strong invaders.”
According to Ariyo, the insurgents targeted a road construction company in the area. “A company that was constructing the road was their target. They looted that place,” he said.
The incident underscores the persistent insecurity plaguing parts of northern Nigeria, particularly rural communities vulnerable to banditry and insurgent attacks. Ariyo’s account has sparked renewed calls for urgent government intervention and improved security measures in remote areas.

Many have expressed shock at the scale and coordination of the attack emphasizing the brazen use of motorcycles, a hallmark of militant operations in the region. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
Ariyo’s firsthand testimony paints a grim picture of life in regions plagued by violence even as ordinary citizens attempt to go about their lives and celebrate milestones with loved ones.
