A 42-year-old man identified as Hafisu (surname withheld), who was initially taken into custody by operatives of the Anti-Vice Unit of the Osun State Police Command over an alleged assault, has reportedly admitted to being in possession of a human skull that was later uncovered during a search of his residence.

According to Nigerian Tribune, the suspect allegedly stated during questioning that the skull was obtained for use in a charm he believed was intended to attract wealth or bring financial success.

Hafisu was arrested alongside several other individuals identified as Jamiu, also known as Ayekanlowa, Nureni, and Aremu (surnames withheld), who were said to have possible links to the source of the skull.

The case reportedly originated from a petition submitted by one Prince Lasisi to the state Commissioner of Police. In the complaint, Lasisi alleged that while he was on his farmland, he was attacked by Hafisu and two others, who were said to have been armed with weapons including sticks and cutlasses. He further claimed that the attackers assaulted him, made away with his harvested crops, and issued threats to his life.

Confirming developments in the case, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Osun State Command, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, stated that the Anti-Vice Unit was directed by the Commissioner of Police to investigate the allegations. As part of the investigation, a search warrant was executed at Hafisu’s residence, where officers reportedly discovered a human skull.

In addition, a separate search conducted at the residence of another suspect, Amodu, led to the recovery of materials suspected to be human hair, which are believed to be connected to the ongoing investigation.

Nureni, aged 40, while explaining said: “I was digging a soakaway pit when I struck an object, which turned out to be a human skull. I lifted it with a shovel and kept it aside. I told Ayekanlowa, who then informed Hafisu. We picked it around 6 p.m.”

He reportedly denied any involvement in exhuming human remains from cemeteries, but acknowledged that about five years earlier, he came across a broken skull while digging a grave and handed it over to another individual for use in preparing a charm said to be intended for treating convulsion.
