Founder of the Albino Foundation, Jake Epelle, has criticized the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over his recent comments during the Rivers State local government elections. Epelle, speaking in an interview with News Central TV, expressed surprise at Wike’s decision to speak on matters he believes are strictly the responsibility of the President.

According to Epelle, the people of Rivers State are unhappy with how the elections were conducted. He explained that many citizens feel cheated and want their democratically elected governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to continue leading the state.

What shocked him most, however, was Wike’s statement after casting his vote. The FCT Minister reportedly declared the “suspension of emergency rule” and suggested the reinstatement of Governor Fubara. Epelle argued that such an announcement is not Wike’s duty, stressing that only the President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has the authority to make such declarations.

“I was amazed that the FCT Minister took the place of the President by going ahead to announce the reinstatement of the governor. That is not his job,” Epelle said. “The presidency should question him for speaking out of turn, because that’s exactly what he did.”

Epelle further warned that Wike’s actions suggest he is acting out a script from the presidency, a situation he believes is unhealthy for Nigeria’s democracy.
