ADC Chieftain Malam Lawal Batagarawa, a former Minister of State for Defence, has challenged the All Progressives Congress (APC) on its record in managing Nigeria’s economy, during an interview with Daily Trust on Saturday, September 27, 2025.
ADC Chieftain Batagarawa served under President Olusegun Obasanjo.
He reminded Nigerians that he was a key figure in that administration.
He said that during Obasanjo’s time, the economy witnessed progress and stability.
He argued that anyone who looks back at the Obasanjo years would see clear improvements.
According to him, the economy then was stronger and more organised than what is happening under the current APC government.
The ADC Chieftain openly called on APC to compare its time in office with that of Obasanjo.
He said such a comparison would show that the earlier government performed better in critical areas.
He insisted that the policies of Obasanjo’s team led to growth, while APC’s policies have failed to deliver.
ADC Chieftain Batagarawa’s comments come as debates over Nigeria’s future continue to grow.
With the 2027 elections drawing closer, questions about economic management and leadership are dominating political discussions.
His words add to the pressure on the Tinubu administration, which is already facing criticism for rising inflation, unemployment, and insecurity.
The ADC Chieftain noted that governments must be honest about their performance.
In his view, APC has not shown the courage to admit failures or correct mistakes.
He maintained that the economy today is in worse shape than it was during Obasanjo’s rule.
”I was a key figure in the Obasanjo’s government and I challenge APC let them come and compare their time with our time in terms of the economy,” he said. See, More, Here>>>
