During an interview with Arise Television, Segun Sowunmi, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), opened up about a prior conversation he had with Labour Party’s Peter Obi, expressing his concerns over Obi’s indecision and political strategy as Nigeria moves toward the 2027 elections.
Speaking during an interview with Arise Television from 28:15, Sowunmi emphasised that while he respects Obi’s position and past performance, the former governor of Anambra State risks squandering the political capital he built during the 2023 elections. He noted that Obi’s silence and hesitation on his future plans could hinder efforts to unify progressive forces across regional and party lines—something Sowunmi believes is critical for any serious challenge to the current political establishment.
According to him, “It’s his business, though, and I told him many months before that look, if your mind is not made up by May 29th this year about what you want to do, I’m going to be more inclined to support Asiwaju. And the simple reason is this, I told him, Peter: the benefit that we have done now by integrating you as someone that can be the leader of the Ndi Igbo political force and in a pan-Nigerian environment, I do not think you should throw it away.”
