Shan George has stated that despite having to sell many of her valuable possessions during her mother’s illness, there was one thing she could not part with: her books. She said that she has always been a lover of books and that her collection was one of the few things she brought with her when she moved from Lagos to Calabar.

In an interview with Chude Jideonwo, she explained that when she was packing up her life in Lagos, she sold her bed, her gas cooker, her fridge, and most of her other household items. But her bookshelf and her books were too precious to leave behind.

In Shan George’s words: “I sold everything in Lagos, my bed, my gas cooker, fridge. The only thing I brought back from Lagos was my books, because I have a bookshelf. I love books. So, and I buy my books. So, I brought back my books, my plasma TV in the sitting room, and my few clothes and, you know, personal effects that were just left. That’s all. I just put my mother in the car, those little things in the one of the cars left, because I had sold others, and drove myself all the way from Lagos.”
