According to a report by Vanguard Newspapers on Saturday, September 13, 2025, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has shared an emotional account of how the resilience of vulnerable groups in his state moved him to tears, stressing the urgent need for empathy-driven leadership in addressing poverty.
Speaking at a one-day stakeholder engagement of the National Social Safety-Nets Coordinating Office (NASSCO) held at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos, the governor narrated how a modest N5,000 stipend transformed the lives of almajiris and persons with disabilities.
Sule explained that the beneficiaries devised a system they called “Attashe,” pooling their stipends so that one person could receive the full amount each month to start a business.
He said, “What moved me deeply was how some recipients began small ventures, including shoemaking. They even crafted a pair of shoes and presented them to me in my office. I was so touched, I shed tears. I couldn’t believe what they had achieved.”
The governor said such stories underscore the resilience of ordinary Nigerians and the need for policies that translate empathy into action.
