A pregnant woman in Imo State tragically passed away after doctors allegedly used a YouTube tutorial to perform a Cesarean Section (CS).
Speaking in a video on TVC News, The incident occurred at Lebechi Hospital in Owerri, the capital of Imo State. The woman’s husband, Onyekachi Eze, together with Nollywood producer Stanley Ontop, reported the case to the Imo Police Command on Tuesday.
Eze recounted the heart-wrenching event, saying, “I brought my wife to the hospital when she was in labor, and the doctor said she needed surgery because she was bleeding. While in the operating room, I saw them using their phones to watch a YouTube video on how to perform the surgery. Sadly, I lost both my wife and baby during the process.”
Stanley Ontop later posted an update showing the arrest of the hospital owner, while the doctors involved in the surgery reportedly fled. In a social media post, he wrote, “The owner of the hospital where doctors used YouTube to perform surgery has been arrested. Nurses were detained, but the doctors who carried out the surgery have fled. Authorities are working to locate them.”
The case has caused widespread outrage, drawing attention to the rising concerns about the state of healthcare in Nigeria. The police have promised a full investigation, and efforts are being made to find the doctors who fled the scene.
This tragic event highlights the urgent need for stricter regulation and oversight in Nigeria’s healthcare system, ensuring that medical professionals uphold the highest standards of care and safety.
