During a recent media chat, Minister Nyesom Wike spoke about the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State and his strained relationship with Governor Siminalayi Fubara. In a video that was shared by TVC News, Wike expressed disappointment in some elders of the state, saying they have failed to act like true elders by not stepping in to resolve the crisis.

“Ask yourself, is there any so-called elder in Rivers State who has tried to help the situation? None,” Wike said. He explained that some elders had lost respect because of the way they behave and speak publicly. He specifically mentioned one elder who, according to him, made biased statements on television. “I saw him making statements on television, he didn’t talk as an Elder, so he can’t come to me now,” Wike said.

Responding to the idea that the atmosphere in the state is too toxic for peace talks, Wike disagreed. “The atmosphere is not poisoned—they poisoned themselves,” he stated. He also criticized some religious leaders for not being fair or spiritual in their approach. Wike referred to an incident in a church where a pastor started making political comments instead of preaching.

He also mentioned seeing women in white garments praying against him. “How does God answer these kinds of selfish prayers?” he asked. Wike called those actions dishonest and accused them of pretending to seek peace while secretly wishing him harm.
