‎‎Mrs. Yinka Ogunde, Founder of the Concerned Parents and Educators Network (CPE), has expressed shock over the poor salaries of Nigerian university lecturers, as reported by Vanguard on Sunday, 31 August, 2025.

‎She said she recently discovered that a professor in Nigeria earns less than N600,000 monthly, which is below the pay of some local government councillors.

‎In a message shared on one of the social media platforms of her group, she admitted that she had previously underestimated the struggles of lecturers.

‎She apologized to them and said the discovery showed that Nigeria urgently needs to rethink the place of education in national priorities.

‎Ogunde, who has spent years campaigning for better school standards, stressed that the pay gap reflects how little value the country places on knowledge.

‎According to her, a professor goes through long years of study, research, and teaching, yet ends up receiving wages that do not match the effort and importance of the role.

‎“I owe all lecturers an apology. I never knew a Prof earns less than 600k, less than a local govt councillor. We need an Education rethink,” he said.
