A struggling family in Akwa Ibom State has been given a new lease on life after Governor Umo Eno stepped in to provide them with solar-powered electricity and a newly rebuilt home. The remarkable act of kindness was inspired by the story of 14-year-old Abraham Akaninyene, a JSS 3 student of Comprehensive High School in Uran Local Government Area, who had been studying under a public streetlight due to the lack of electricity in his home.
A concerned resident captured a video of Abraham sitting under a solar-powered streetlight, braving the cold night to do his schoolwork. The video quickly gained attention, and when it reached Governor Umo Eno, he was deeply moved by the young boy’s determination. Without hesitation, he directed his Special Assistant on Humanitarian Affairs, Mr. Ando, to ensure the installation of solar electricity in the boy’s home.
However, the governor’s intervention did not stop there. Along with providing electricity, he also installed a solar-powered water pump for the family and ordered a complete reconstruction of their home to a more comfortable and dignified standard.
During an interview with AIT News from 1:55, Abraham expressed his gratitude, saying, “I thank God for Governor Umo for what he has done for my family, for bringing light to our compound. Now there is light in my home, and I won’t have to stay under the streetlight to read anymore. I can now study inside. May God bless him in Jesus’ name.”
One of Abraham’s family members, still overwhelmed by the unexpected turn of events, shared their reaction: “I never expected this to happen. I was at work when I received the call about what had been done for us. Not everyone gets such an opportunity. What was once an object of mockery has become a source of joy. I pray that God blesses Governor Umo Eno and elevates him higher so he can continue to touch the lives of vulnerable people.”
