Bode George, an elder statesman, has urged the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, to end his ongoing conflict with Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State. In a recent press conference, George expressed concern over the disarray within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), pointing out that members should not allow personal disputes to undermine the party. He criticized the lack of action from party leaders to rein in Wike, stressing that no individual should hold the party hostage.
According to Daily Post, George questioned the allegations against Governor Fubara, pointing out that Wike himself had previously acknowledged helping Fubara attain the governorship position. He expressed disbelief over why Wike, now living in Abuja, would continue to interfere with the affairs of Rivers State. He also noted that past governors did not behave in such a manner, calling for a return to more respectful political conduct.
The elder statesman further warned that such behavior could lead to the disintegration of the party. He noted Wike’s recent public threats against other governors, suggesting that the current PDP leadership should take action to prevent further chaos. George lamented that while the ruling APC had not acted against Wike, the PDP had failed to sanction him for his disruptive actions.
In his message to Wike, George appealed for calm, acknowledging the former governor’s past grievances during the PDP presidential race but urging him to put aside personal issues for the greater good of the party. He emphasized that no individual, not even Wike, is more important than the collective interests of the PDP. He urged party members to focus on unity and stability rather than personal vendettas, highlighting the importance of working together to ensure the success of the PDP.
According to him, “I am appealing to him to cool off immediately. I know he was injured by friends during the last PDP Presidential contest. Take it easy. Nobody is bigger than any party. Forget what happened in the past. Let us work together for the interest of our political party.”
