Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu became the focus of a deeply personal moment when American conservative commentator Charlie Kirk recalled his family’s encounter with the longtime Israeli leader during a recent interview.
Speaking with Fox News anchor Harris Faulkner, Kirk paused to reflect on the emotional weight of his connection to Israel before addressing Netanyahu’s current role on the global stage.
“Before that, I just want to say that I am heartbroken,” Kirk began, his voice heavy with emotion. “My wife, my family, my son — actually, his 2019 visits of Israel, he had lunch with him, and his wife.”
The remark, referencing a private family meeting with Netanyahu and his spouse Sara Netanyahu during a 2019 visit to Jerusalem, underscored the personal dimension of U.S.-Israel ties among conservative figures. Kirk, who has long championed pro-Israel positions through his platform at Turning Point USA, said the memory remains significant for his family, particularly amid the heightened scrutiny facing Israel’s government.
Netanyahu, who has led Israel through multiple turbulent periods, including wars in Gaza and ongoing disputes with international critics, acknowledged Kirk’s sentiments with gratitude. The Israeli leader has often emphasized the strength of bonds between Israel and American conservatives, framing such support as essential in countering what he describes as unfair double standards in global diplomacy.
The interview comes at a critical juncture for Netanyahu, who continues to defend Israel’s military operations and domestic policies amid mounting international pressure. His government faces criticism from human rights organizations, foreign governments, and even some within Israel over its handling of security challenges and judicial reforms.
For Netanyahu, however, the personal testimonies of support — such as Kirk’s — bolster his longstanding claim that Israel’s allies recognize the stakes of its struggle for survival and legitimacy.
“This is not just about politics,” Kirk added, stressing the emotional resonance of his family’s encounter. “It’s about history, faith, and friendship.”
