FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has fired back at the former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, for calling him a “child” while simultaneously claiming to have told President Bola Tinubu that he will not support him in the 2027 election.
Speaking during a live TVC broadcast from 1:16:45, Wike expressed disbelief at Amaechi’s contradictory statements about both himself and the president. “I heard somebody saying the other day that he told the president, I won’t support you; you have no capacity. A president who identified me, he said he had no capacity? Something must be wrong with you,” Wike stated.
The FCT Minister defended President Tinubu’s judgment in appointing him, arguing that the president’s choice validates his capabilities. “A president who identified who can turn around FCT, he said he has no capacity? It is you who have no capacity to know that this one has a capacity,” he declared.
Wike dismissed Amaechi’s relevance while maintaining he doesn’t need to know his name. “I don’t know the person’s name; I don’t care, and I heard the person saying he doesn’t talk to children. May you not talk to children; see how you survive,” he said.
The minister then challenged Amaechi’s characterization of him as a child, pointing to their political history. “But who are children? Somebody who beat you in 2015, 2019, 2023, you say he is a child? Let that child continue to beat you,” Wike stated, referencing his political victories over Amaechi.
The exchange escalated from earlier controversies where Amaechi claimed Nigerians are hungry, prompting Wike to respond that Nigerians are not hungry and that Amaechi is only “hungry for power.” Wike also claimed credit for making Amaechi governor of Rivers State.
Amaechi had refuted Wike’s claims, clarifying that he became governor through the support of former Rivers State Governor Dr. Peter Odili and his wife, Justice Mary Odili. The former transportation minister emphasized their hierarchical relationship, stating that regardless of Wike’s feelings, he was Wike’s boss when the current FCT Minister served as his Chief of Staff.
Amaechi also revealed how one Mohammed Adoke had initially lobbied for Wike to become Commissioner of Finance, but that he insisted Wike work under his direct supervision instead.
