Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw is known for her honesty and her deep love for Nigeria. In her conversation on “With Chude,” Kate shared why she has chosen to remain in Nigeria, even when many friends and family have moved abroad for a more comfortable life.

Kate said she would rather live with purpose and speak her mind than stay silent. “It’s better to speak your mind, speak the truth and live your life than to be silent… if God has given you some kind of grace and favor and courage and strength and you have been through stuff,” she explained. She believes that if you have the ability to speak up, you should use it to help your country and the people around you.

She also talked about why she continues to speak out about issues in the country, even when it is risky or unpopular. “Even my friends that are in politics, they say, ‘Kate, you hate us that are in the other party, you hate us,’ because I always tell them, ‘You are not trying to help us,’”. Kate believes it’s important to hold leaders accountable and to always speak the truth, even to people she knows personally.

Kate explained that she could easily live in another country if she wanted. “I can be quiet, go and sit in some other country, cross my leg, sip tea by the balcony, but I choose not to because this country is the only country we have. I have only green passport, I have only… and everyone has run away, my child is not here, everybody has run. Who’s going to be here? I’m here, you are here, I’m here,” she said For Kate, Nigeria is home, and she feels a strong responsibility to stay and be part of making things better.
