In an interview with Arise News, Professor Antony Kila, Director of the Commonwealth Institute of Advanced and Professional Studies, stated his regret over his past criticism of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Prof. Kila acknowledged that in the past he called Jonathan different kinds of names and also indicated that he is one of those that regret how the former president was treated while he was the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The words of Kila at some point during the interview read, “because I have been very bad to Jonathan in the past, I am one of those people who regret how he was treated. I say it publicly because I was one of those people who called him different kinds of names. I have a kind of soft spot for him lately, and my instinct is to agree to whatever he says.”

He also stated that “I think the idea of saying that people are defecting to the ruling party means that the ruling party is trying to create a one-party state is a shallow, lazy way of thinking. All parties will be glad for people to join them. Politicians leave political parties because the political parties don’t have binding ideologies.”
