According to a report by TVC News on July 21, 2025, Labour Party chieftain and 2023 vice-presidential candidate, Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has signaled his intention to possibly contest the 2027 presidential election, reaffirming his commitment to the Labour Party and warning against hasty political coalitions.

Speaking during a press briefing monitored Monday evening, Baba-Ahmed addressed speculation surrounding recent opposition coalition meetings aimed at unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He acknowledged attending such meetings but emphasized his continued loyalty to the Labour Party.

“I have attended and listened to the coalition attempts, yet I still remain in the Labour Party… I am not one to sleepwalk into any political arrangements,” he said.

While expressing cautious optimism about coalition efforts, Baba-Ahmed stressed the need for clarity of vision and unity of purpose: “The government that follows is even more important than the act of removing a government itself… A government was removed and what followed after was disaster.”

He lauded Labour Party’s impact in the 2023 general elections, claiming the party initially polled 10 million votes—later reduced to 6.1 million—and described its performance as “unique and unprecedented.”

“Labour Party is not a party to walk away from,” he reiterated.

On the possibility of contesting in 2027, Baba-Ahmed said: “I’m here as a loyal party member, as a peacemaker… I intend to reconcile all divergent opinions in Labour Party. This is what a leader should do.”
