A university lecturer in Ekiti State, Israel Dada, has been left in deep anguish and disbelief following the shocking and mysterious escape of a notorious criminal, identified as Ayomide, from police custody. The fugitive had earlier been arrested for allegedly launching a brutal knife attack on Dada’s wife, Mary, within the confines of their home at the Bode Thomas Housing Estate, located along Ogbomoso Road in Ofameta, Oyo State.

Speaking in an emotional interview with The PUNCH on Tuesday, the devastated husband made an urgent appeal to law enforcement authorities and concerned Nigerians to ensure that justice is served. He called on the police hierarchy to immediately initiate a full-scale manhunt for the fugitive and bring him back into custody so he can face prosecution for his heinous crime.

Investigations by *PUNCH Metro* revealed that the suspect, widely known in the community for his involvement in robbery and theft, had been captured by vigilant residents shortly after his vicious attack on February 1, 2025. Armed with a sharp knife, Ayomide had reportedly stabbed the victim multiple times, inflicting deep wounds and leaving her in critical condition. His arrest came after a determined pursuit by community members who, outraged by the brutality of the assault, successfully apprehended him and immediately handed him over to the police.

However, the case took an unexpected and deeply troubling turn when the family was informed that the suspect had managed to escape from police custody. According to Dada, officers at the Atiba Police Division gave a vague and unconvincing explanation, claiming that Ayomide had fled while receiving medical attention at a hospital, despite being under police watch.

Expressing his frustration and suspicions, Dada recounted the horrifying ordeal his wife endured, stating, “She suffered multiple deep knife wounds, and she was bleeding heavily when I found her. Thankfully, the brave residents of our community did not let the attacker get away. They captured him and immediately handed him over to the police.”

He continued, “We believed the matter was now in safe hands, but to our greatest shock, the police later informed us that the suspect had escaped from the hospital. How could such a dangerous individual vanish under police supervision? This explanation defies logic. I strongly suspect foul play—either through police negligence or outright collusion with his relatives to set him free. The authorities must investigate this matter thoroughly and ensure that he is re-arrested.”

Sharing her harrowing experience in a separate interview with our correspondent on Tuesday, Mary recalled, “I got back from Ibadan around 4:30 p.m. and opened our gate when our small dog suddenly began barking uncontrollably. I kept talking to it, unaware that the robber was inside the house, silently watching me the whole time.
