APC National Secretary Senator Ajibola Bashiru has addressed claims that former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai was sidelined by the ruling party, emphasizing that no individual has an inherent right to ministerial positions.

Speaking in an interview on TVC from 8:54, Sen. Bashiru challenged the narrative of abandonment: “I don’t think it is the birthright of anybody to be a minister in any government. So, if by chance, Mallam thought that having lost out in the bid to be minister, it makes him far different from the political party under which he served as governor.”

The party secretary highlighted the rarity of political leadership opportunities: “We have a country of over 180 million people, and if you have the chance to serve as a governor, it is a rare privilege. I think the probability that any Nigerian will serve as governor is 0.0%.”

He also earmarked that the President had played his part by nominating El-Rufai and that the National Assembly rejected his nomination on the premise of security while he was governor.

Sen. Bashiru emphasized El-Rufai’s past opportunities and what the party had expected from him after his nomination didn’t scale through the 10th Assembly: “He has had the opportunity of being a leader of the party and serving the country. So, the fact that at this time around you could not scale the order of being a minister should not be a basis of saying the party is distancing from him.

As a leader of the party, he also has responsibility and a role to be able to play in his own state in Kaduna, and to ensure that he contributes his own quota to a party that has given him a platform to be a governor for 8 years.”
