According to a report by The Times Of Israel, US President Donald Trump reportedly told Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to be “so fucking negative” during a tense phone conversation, Axios reported.
The exchange took place after Hamas announced that it had submitted its response to the US-led proposal, expressing partial approval while signaling objections to several points and calling for further negotiations before any deal could be finalized.
According to a US official familiar with the discussion, Netanyahu downplayed Hamas’s reaction, saying the group’s mixed message was “nothing to celebrate.” Trump, however, disagreed sharply, responding, “I don’t know why you’re always so fucking negative. This is a win. Take it.”
Axios reports that Trump had anticipated Hamas would reject the peace proposal outright and was unexpectedly encouraged by the group’s partial acceptance. The former president viewed the development as a step forward in efforts to end the long-standing war in Gaza and secure the release of hostages.
A senior US official described the phone call as “somewhat combative,” noting that Trump appeared frustrated with Netanyahu’s pessimism but that both leaders eventually aligned on the need to move the process forward. “Ultimately, President Trump wants peace, and that’s what matters most. The administration is already working closely with Israel to accomplish that,” the official said.
Meanwhile, an Israeli official told Axios that Netanyahu privately expressed skepticism over Hamas’s intentions, viewing its response as a “rejection in disguise.” The prime minister reportedly stressed that he wanted to challenge the perception that Hamas had accepted Trump’s proposal.
The Trump administration’s peace initiative includes provisions for a ceasefire, the release of hostages in exchange for prisoners, and steps toward stabilizing Gaza under international supervision. While the plan has drawn cautious optimism from some world leaders, doubts persist over whether Hamas and Israel can bridge their deep mistrust and conflicting political aims.
