Human rights activist and environmentalist, Madame Ann-Kio Briggs, has openly criticized the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and the National Assembly over their actions in the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.

Speaking in an interview with Channels Television from 27.13, Briggs expressed deep concern about the appointment of Ibas Ibok, a man from Cross River State, as the sole administrator overseeing government affairs in Rivers State.

According to her, it is troubling that someone who is not from the state is managing the people’s money without public knowledge of how it’s being spent. “Now we have a man who is not from Rivers State in our Government House, overseeing our money. We don’t know how much, or what he’s using it for, yet the budget has been increased,” she said.

Briggs accused Akpabio of pushing decisions that don’t reflect the wishes of the Rivers people. She was particularly upset about how the National Assembly approved Ibok’s appointment and the increase of the state’s budget from ₦1.4 billion to ₦1.8 billion — all without proper consultation.

She described the Senate under Akpabio’s leadership as “a great disappointment and pain to Rivers people,” adding, “I don’t know what we’ve done to Akpabio. Why is he doing things that are so unacceptable to the people of Rivers State?”

Briggs questioned why money from Akwa Ibom State, where Akpabio is from, isn’t used for such purposes instead of interfering in Rivers matters.
