The immediate past Chief Justice of Nigeria and current Chairman of the Body of Benchers, Olukayode Ariwoola, GCON, told The Punch about his journey through the judiciary, life beyond the robes, and his views on the state of justice in Nigeria.

When asked about the case involving Nnamdi Kanu and the Federal Government, he said that he did not know anything about Nnamdi Kanu and did not want to know anything about him.

He explained that the matter had gone back and forth and was still before the trial court. He noted that Kanu initially intended to call witnesses but later said he was no longer calling any, claiming he had no case to answer.

He added that Kanu’s lawyer made a no-case submission on his behalf, which was overruled. He emphasized that since he was no longer on the bench, he could neither rule in Kanu’s favour nor against him, as he had no competence in the matter.

He said, “I do not know anything about Nnamdi Kanu, and I do not want to know anything about him. The matter has gone back and forth and is still before the trial court.
