The National Secretary of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), Peter Ameh, has expressed strong doubts about President Bola Tinubu’s ability to secure victory in the 2027 presidential election, citing public sentiment as a key indicator during his recent interview on Trust TV from 7:45.
While stopping short of predicting the president’s exact electoral position, Ameh made his stance clear. “I do not want to say the president will come third. I know there’s going to be a lot of rigorous struggle to retain this seat,” he acknowledged, before adding his assessment: “But one thing I’m sure of is that I believe and I would align with the view that the president cannot win the 2027 election from what is on the street.”
The CUPP official urged the current administration to engage more directly with citizens to understand public perception of their governance. “I think one thing these people should do when they get to power is develop that kind of character to go out and speak to people on the street, try to communicate with people so that they will know how badly their government is performing,” Ameh stated.
Drawing from his political experience, Ameh offered insight into the relationship between government performance and public support. “One thing I’ve come to realize in my participation in politics is that I discovered that governments that are doing well do not even need to struggle to try to advertise what they are doing,” he explained.
He further elaborated on this point, stating: “The people on their own will be able to project the interest of the government to show that the government is doing well and to also show that their lives have become better from the policies of the government.”
The remarks suggest growing confidence among opposition figures that current economic and social conditions may work against the incumbent administration in the upcoming electoral contest.
