Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, known as GRV, has clarified his transition from the Labour Party (LP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as part of a broader coalition strategy to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria’s 2027 elections.
In a recent interview on Channels TV’s “Sunday Politics,” Rhodes-Vivour emphasized, “I didn’t dump the Labour Party, my section of the Labour Party is pro-coalition, I believe that the only way we can stand a chance against the APC is with the coalition”.
This move reflects the dynamic nature of Nigerian politics, where alliances often form to counter dominant parties. Rhodes-Vivour’s decision aligns with a pro-coalition faction within the LP, aiming to unite opposition forces.
The APC, having governed since 2015, maintains a strong presence, particularly in Lagos State, where Rhodes-Vivour previously contested as the LP’s gubernatorial candidate in 2023.
His shift to the ADC is seen as a strategic realignment, acknowledging the challenges smaller parties face against the APC.
This development occurs amidst Nigeria’s complex political landscape, where economic and governance issues are paramount.
Rhodes-Vivour’s background as an architect and social advocate adds depth to his political persona, potentially influencing voter perceptions as the 2027 elections approach.
The focus on coalition-building underscores a recognition of the need for unified opposition to effect change.
