According to a report by Punch on Sunday, August 31, 2025, former host of the popular talk show Your View, Morayo Afolabi-Brown, has admitted that her earlier criticisms of Labour Party presidential candidate and former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, were based on ignorance and insufficient knowledge of his record in public office.
Speaking in a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Afolabi-Brown explained that she had made negative remarks about Obi without fully understanding his achievements as governor. She noted that her initial position was shaped more by assumptions than by verified information.
According to her, it was only after making the public comments that several people reached out to her to explain Obi’s governance record and the impact of his policies on Anambra State. She acknowledged that those clarifications made her realise she had been unfair in her earlier judgment.
Afolabi-Brown stated that she eventually came to understand that Obi had implemented reforms and initiatives that were widely appreciated by many in his state, something she had not been aware of at the time. She admitted that her lack of knowledge led to her misrepresentation of his contributions and service.
The veteran broadcaster described the experience as a learning moment, stressing the importance of conducting proper research before making public statements about political figures. She said it was a reminder of the influence media personalities wield and the responsibility that comes with shaping public discourse.
