According to a report by Daily Post on Saturday, August 9, 2025, former Minister of Transportation and ex-Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has openly thrown a challenge to the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, questioning his popularity and connection with the people of Port Harcourt.

Amaechi claimed that a simple walk along the streets of the Rivers State capital would be enough to determine who truly enjoys the love and support of the residents.

“I challenged the present FCT minister Wike to take a walk along the streets of Port Harcourt, which will reveal who is healthy and who the people actually loved,” the ex-Rivers governor said.

Amaechi, who governed Rivers State from 2007 to 2015 before being appointed Minister of Transportation under the Muhammadu Buhari administration, has maintained a longstanding political rivalry with Wike, his successor as governor.

The two have clashed repeatedly over political influence in the state, party control, and governance style.

The former minister’s latest statement comes amid heightened political tension in Rivers State, where loyalists of both camps continue to trade accusations.

Amaechi’s remarks appeared to question not just Wike’s political standing but also hinted at concerns about his well-being.

Political analysts believe the challenge is likely to stir further controversy, especially given the current political climate in Rivers State.
