In a revealing interview on News Central TV, Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Samuel Nwanosike made a bold claim about the political rise of former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
Nwanosike stated that without the intervention and sacrifices of Nyesom Wike, Amaechi would not have ascended to the governorship of Rivers State.
Speaking passionately during the interview, Nwanosike who hails from Ward 9 in Ikwerre, a boundary community to Amaechi’s Ward 8 in Ubima recounted how Wike allegedly put his personal assets on the line to support Amaechi’s political ambition.
“I can tell you, if not for Nyesom Wike who mortgaged his own living house, Rotimi Amaechi wouldn’t have become governor of Rivers State,” Nwanosike said.
The Ikwerre LGA Chairman further alleged that there is recorded evidence to back up his claims. “We have a record that we can send to you to play for Nigerians to see,” he stated, suggesting that the contribution made by Wike to Amaechi’s political journey was both substantial and verifiable.
The statement has stirred fresh debate in Rivers State’s political circles, reviving old tensions between Amaechi and Wike both of whom have had a long and complicated political relationship. While Wike served as Chief of Staff during Amaechi’s tenure as governor, the two later became bitter political rivals.
As of the time of this report, neither Amaechi nor Wike has publicly responded to the claims made by Nwanosike. The allegation, however is likely to add fuel to ongoing political dynamics within Rivers State ahead of upcoming elections.
