During a plenary session in the Senate, Senator Abdul Ningi raised strong concerns about the recent decision of the Inspector General of Police to withdraw police officers attached to VIPs. He explained that while lawmakers like himself had their police orderlies removed immediately, some high-ranking officials were still enjoying full security protection.
In a video from 3:49 shared by TV Platinum, the senator said it was unfair for the rule to apply only to members of the National Assembly while governors, ministers, and influential business figures continued to move around with heavy police escorts. He stressed that if the police leadership wanted to enforce the policy, it should be done equally for everyone, not just a selected group.
Ningi made it clear that he was not afraid for his personal safety and could look after himself. What mattered to him was fairness and respect for democratic principles. He described it as strange and unacceptable for lawmakers to be singled out while others kept privileges that were supposed to be removed.
He urged the Senate to direct its Committee on Police Affairs to investigate why the withdrawal of police escorts had not been carried out across the board. The senator warned that the National Assembly should not be used as a scapegoat while others continue to enjoy benefits that go against the new directive.
In his words, “I can take care of myself, but let me not see governors, ministers, and business concerns being covered by security establishment.” View, More,
