Tanko Yunusa, a member of the Labour Party, has shared details about his background to highlight how he connects with different parts of Nigeria. He said he is fully Hausa by origin, as both his father and mother are from Kano State.

Speaking in an interview with AIT, Yunusa said that even though he is Hausa, he grew up in Lagos, specifically in Mushin, which has a large Hausa community. He disclosed that he speaks both Hausa and Yoruba languages fluently. He also said that he was “adopted into an Igbo family”

In Yunusa’s words: “The dynamic thing about me is that I grew up in Lagos, in a strongly dominated Hausa community in Mushin. Apart from that, I speak Yoruba language very well and I speak my language very well and I was also adopted as a son by default from an Igbo people”
