Professor Jerry Gana, a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has disclosed details of high-level reconciliation meetings he facilitated at his residence during the 2023 election period, involving key party stakeholders including FCT minister, Nyesom Wike and Saraki.
Speaking in a candid interview on Arise TV, Prof. Gana revealed how he intervened to prevent internal party divisions that threatened to derail the PDP’s 2023 electoral prospects.
“I had the privilege in my house, I mean as one of the founding fathers, during 2023. I called a former vice president because a friend of his from Kaduna came to see me and said, ‘Look, you are the founding fathers, call these people or they’re going to scatter this party,'” Prof. Gana recounted.
The veteran politician described how both leaders responded positively to his intervention efforts.
“He honored me, he came, and I called Wike. He came all the way by a private flight. The two of them were with me in my little house, and we reached a conclusion seriously on how to move and really win the election in 2023. We agreed,” Prof. Gana stated.
According to the PDP founding member, the meeting resulted in the establishment of a structured reconciliation framework involving multiple party leaders.
“Saraki, let’s have a committee of 14—7 from both sides,” Prof. Gana explained, referencing the agreement reached during the discussions.
He further detailed the composition of the reconciliation committee, stating: “The former vice president nominated the governor of Adamawa State as the chairman of his own team of seven. Wike recommended and appointed Mimiko, the former governor of Ondo, as the leader of his own team.”
Prof. Gana described the committee’s subsequent activities as productive, noting: “The seven, seven side—14 met here in Abuja, met in Port Harcourt, and reached excellent conclusions.”
The revelations provide insight into the extensive behind-the-scenes efforts made by party elders to maintain unity within the PDP during a critical electoral period, highlighting the role of founding members in mediating internal disputes.
