The political crisis in Rivers State has taken a dramatic turn after Archbishop Elkanah Hanson issued a stern warning to national and state leaders involved in the impeachment efforts against suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Speaking at a tribute event honoring the late Pa Edwin Clark in Port Harcourt, the Archbishop delivered a passionate message, claiming that God had revealed to him that the ongoing attempts to oust Governor Fubara were against divine will.
Addressing a congregation filled with prominent Niger Delta figures, Archbishop Hanson stated he had just completed a three-day fast when he received what he described as a clear instruction from God to intervene publicly.
In his words “And Now I ask God the judgement who give one power and remove one from place of authority and bring on another to dispatch his angels to wherever the President, senator or collaborator, let their sleep be sized , let their rest be seized until the bring back Governor Fubara”.
He declared, “I come not in my own authority but under God’s instruction,” and warned that those responsible for the governor’s suspension-including President Bola Tinubu, Minister Nyesom Wike, and Honourable Martin Amaewhule-were challenging God’s authority and would face consequences until Fubara is restored.
The Archbishop specifically called out Honourable Amaewhule, who is leading the impeachment move, stating that God was not pleased with his actions and that the attempt to remove the governor would not succeed. He urged President Tinubu to immediately reverse the suspension, warning that anyone involved in undermining Fubara’s leadership would lose sleep and peace until the governor is reinstated.
The service, marked by a blend of tribute and political urgency, highlighted the deepening divisions within Rivers State’s political landscape. Archbishop Hanson’s intervention has added a new spiritual dimension to the crisis, intensifying calls for a resolution that aligns with what he described as God’s plan for the state.
