Segun Sowunmi, a vociferous member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and a former spokesperson for the Atiku Abubakar campaign, has stirred up new controversy with a public critique of Peter Obi, who is a member of the Labour Party. As someone who is well-known for his outspoken opinion on matters pertaining to the nation, Sowunmi resorted to social media in order to make fun of Obi’s political path and recent public appearances, which he considers to be unpatriotic.
Sowunmi made fun of the previous governor of Anambra State in a tweet that was published on his verified X account. He criticised the governor for what he referred to as a lack of political consistency and a perceived alienation from Nigeria’s national image. As an illustration of what he referred to as political instability, he cited Obi’s political past, which included his transition from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and then to the Labour Party eventually. In a more specific manner, Sowunmi made a disparaging remark about Obi’s appearance at a recent international event while dressed in traditional Indonesian garb.
“Your @PeterObi was busy jumping from APGA to PDP to Labour and now to Indonesia while I was standing firm with Nigeria,” he said. “I was standing firm with Nigeria. In spite of the fact that your country now dressed like an Indonesian, at least I and Bwala are always there to support our nation. The Joker is incredible.”
