A former House of Representatives member, Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma, has recalled how he narrowly avoided suspension for refusing to support the impeachment of former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Speaking during an interview with Arise TV while addressing Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan’s suspension, he revealed that he was ultimately saved by the then-Speaker, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, along with the majority of House members who stood by him.
Agbonayinma further recounted an instance where he attempted to speak during a session but was interrupted by the Speaker, who insisted that he return to his designated seat before addressing the House.
He emphasized that Senate rules require each senator to speak only from their assigned seat, reinforcing the importance of adhering to legislative protocols.
He said, “Each senator can only speak from the seat allocated to them. That is the standing rule of the Senate you signed and every senator are obliged to adhere to the rule of the Senate, just like in the House, you must.

“I almost got suspended because of the fact that I didn’t support the impeachment of former vice president Osinbajo, but I’m happy that the then speaker, Rt. Hon Yakubu Dogara, and majority of the House then, stood by me at the end of the day. Even when I wanted to speak at the time, I went to visit one of my colleagues, I was lobbying him to support my motion. I raised up my hand, the Speaker said no, I cannot speak from where I am, I should go back to my seat if I want to.
