Datti Baba Ahmed, the former vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has spoken about the “power of the people” in different countries around the world. Ahmed said that no matter how strong a leader appears to be, the will of the people is always greater in the end.

In a video shared by Daily Trust TV, Ahmed said that over the last 30 years, the world has seen many powerful presidents lose power when their citizens rose up against them. He said examples can be seen in different countries where once-powerful dictators were removed from office or forced out.

Ahmed said the case of Suharto in Indonesia is one example where people’s power brought down a very strong government. He said Saddam Hussein was found hiding in a ditch after losing power as president of Iraq, and Muammar Gaddafi, former president of Libya was removed from a water pipe where he was hiding. He said similar misfortunes happened to leaders like Hosni Mubarak in Egypt, Omar Al-Bashir in Sudan, and Ben Ali in Tunisia.

In Ahmed’s words: “What is happening in other countries. What and what have we not seen in the last 30 years. Indonesia’s Suharto as powerful as he is, the people’s power is ultimate. Saddam Hussein was pulled out of ditch. Gaddafi was pulled out of a water pipe. What happened to Mubarak? Al Bashir, Ben Ali.
