U.S. President Donald J. Trump has come out in firm support of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, denouncing the legal proceedings against him as politically motivated. His remarks follow shortly after a ceasefire was declared between Israel and Iran, bringing a temporary halt to the escalating regional conflict.
Using his Truth Social platform, Trump commended Netanyahu’s leadership during the recent conflict with Iran, portraying him as instrumental in countering nuclear threats in the region. He described the Israeli leader as a seasoned statesman who played a vital role in coordinating with the U.S. to enhance regional stability and counter perceived dangers posed by Iran’s military ambitions.
“He is a Prime Minister who did a fabulous job working with the United States to bring great success in getting rid of the dangerous nuclear threat in Iran,” Trump said.
Trump also raised concerns about the potential consequences of Netanyahu’s trial on ongoing high-stakes negotiations, particularly efforts to secure the release of hostages held by Hamas. He suggested that the court proceedings could distract the prime minister at a critical moment when decisive leadership is needed both domestically and on the international front.
“How is it possible that the Prime Minister of Israel can be forced to sit in a courtroom all day long over NOTHING — cigars, a Bugs Bunny doll, etc.?” he questioned.
While pointing to his own legal challenges, Trump likened Netanyahu’s trial to a politically driven campaign aimed at damaging reputations and undermining effective governance. He warned that the continuation of the case could jeopardize delicate diplomatic efforts, including the enforcement of the Iran ceasefire and progress in Israel-Hamas dialogue.
