In a video posted on Facebook, Asari Dokubo, a prominent Kalabari leader, firmly opposed the proposal to name the Ooni of Ife as the Permanent Chairman of the Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council and the Supreme Leader of the Traditional Religion. He allegedly questioned the legitimacy of such a move, claiming there is no historical precedent or cultural consensus that grants the Ooni such authority. Dokubo also allegedly challenged the notion that the Ooni is the paramount leader of the Yoruba people, stating that no credible historical records confirm this status.
