Deputy Interim National Welfare Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Itopa, has taken a swipe at former presidential candidate Dumebi Kachikwu, faulting his divisive comments about the North.
Speaking in an interview with AIT from 22:53, Itopa said anyone aspiring to become Nigeria’s president must be a symbol of peace and unity, not someone who makes statements that further divide the country. He criticized Kachikwu for referring to northerners in a dismissive manner, stressing that such rhetoric disqualifies him from being taken seriously as a national leader.
Itopa maintained that the presidency requires a unifier who can integrate all regions of the country and not a character whose words sow discord.
In his words:
“It’s insulting because a character who wants to be the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria should be a unifier. It should be somebody that promotes peace and unity, and not somebody that will refer to some section of the country as ‘these northerners.’ I mean, you expect us to take this kind of character seriously?
