Prominent Nigerian journalist and publisher, Dele Momodu, has called for a decisive response from the elders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the face of mounting internal challenges.

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today from 18:38, Momodu emphasised the need for wisdom and courage to address the growing division within the party, which he believes could jeopardise its future if left unchecked.

Momodu expressed concerns about certain members of the PDP, accusing them of being reckless and indifferent to the party’s survival.

According to him, this faction seems more interested in pursuing personal political agendas than in safeguarding the party’s unity and long-term prospects.

He warned that if these individuals continue to cause chaos, they could be responsible for the ultimate collapse of the party.

One of his key points of criticism was the contradictory behaviour of some members who have publicly pledged support for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 elections while still maintaining their membership in the PDP.

Momodu questioned the loyalty of these individuals, suggesting that it is illogical and hypocritical to remain within a party while openly supporting its political rivals for future elections.

He drew attention to the fact that, in the past, members who defected to other parties were able to return to the PDP without causing significant harm to the party’s structure.

These previous defectors, Momodu noted, did not undermine the party’s foundation or contribute to its disintegration, which is why they were welcomed back.

However, he argued that the current situation is different. If the ongoing infighting and reckless behaviour persist, Momodu warned that the PDP may be damaged beyond repair, leaving no solid ground for those members to return to.

Dele Momodu said, “The elders of PDP would have to apply a lot of wisdom as well as a lot of courage right now.

“The people they are dealing with are reckless; they don’t care if PDP dies. They don’t care if PDP dies. If they cannot have it, then kill it. They’ve made up their minds.

“How will somebody in a party be announcing to you that in 2027 we’re going to support the ruling party (APC) and they are still in that same party?

“Once upon a time, some people left PDP when they were grieving. If they destroy PDP, would there be a party for them to return to? They didn’t destroy the party; that’s why they were able to come back.”
